Reiki
Reiki, an ancient art, is an energetic healing system. In Japanese, reiki (ray-key) means “universal life energy.” Some people identify the “universal life energy” as God. Reiki is independent of religion and is widely accepted and used by Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, etc. It has even been taught to priests, monks and nuns in the Catholic Church.
The reiki practitioner acts as a conduit for the healing energy of the Universe/God and employs the method of gently placing his or her hands on or slightly above different energy centers in the body. Reiki treatments are received comfortably clothed, lying on a massage table. All jewelry and shoes should be removed. The Reiki practitioner goes through a series of hand placements either on the body or directly above the body while the client relaxes comfortably, often falling asleep. Most people leave feeling very relaxed and at peace. Some people feel energized after a reiki session.
Reiki is used to relieve stress, empower goals, overcome obstacles, and heal illness. It is complimentary to all types of medicine and is even used in some hospitals for cancer and hospice patients. Reiki works on both physical and emotional levels. Studies have shown that reiki helps to alleviate pain and anxiety with cancer patients. One study found clinical improvement in immune and nervous system function and increased mobility in patients with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, lupus and Fibromyalgia. Reiki is effectively used to relieve discomfort during pregnancy and to ease pain during childbirth. Animals and children are very receptive to Reiki treatments.
Reiki is a powerful gift that is available to everyone. A Reiki practitioner does not heal; he or she can only be used as a tool to conduct healing energy. The energy and the body possess the ability to heal; the practitioner is merely a catalyst that facilitates the session. Everyone has the capacity to learn how to use Reiki.
